Happy 4th

The professional pyrotechnics display at Channelside in Tampa provided an opportunity to try shooting fireworks again. Last July was a disaster. In fact, I’d prefer you not return to that rubbish. We had a great view from the Channelside parking garage. To get our spot we had to arrive and park at around three-thirty. The fireworks did not begin until nine. Fortunately, there was plenty to do there.

The technique I used was quite simple. Point the camera in the area where the fireworks are expected to burst. Set the aperture to f/11. Set the shutter to bulb. Press the shutter release (cable) button just before the explosion. Then simply release it just before the burst fades. The only problem I encountered was focus. Halfway through the show I realized that I had not switched to manual focus. One of the out of focus shots is below. This blurry one is rather interesting. The others were not.

Prior to the show I photographed around Channelside while it was still light out. I’ll post these soon.
