Small, Light, Nimble

This photograph was taken from the back window of my father’s house a couple weeks ago. The small bird appears to weigh of nothing. The limb…nay…twig bends little if at all under the bird’s feet.In addition to being impossibly light, the smallest birds are also quick. Recently I attempted to capture the little finches in my backyard as they flew onto or away from our feeder. One would think that the use of a tripod and 1/1000th of a second shutter speed would freeze the wings of any creature. Much to my surprise this is not so. Higher shutter speeds were not attempted due to the amount of useable light.
